AUTOMATIC MACHINE FOR DC-BASED MEDIUM FREQUENCY (1000Hz) FUSING OF CONDUCTOR ENDS TO THE ARMATURE COMMUTATOR (ACM123)

The ÀÑÌ123 is a readjustable DC-based 1000Hz inverter type machine, designed for the automatic fusing of the conductor ends to the DC motor armature commutator. In this case of application the machine is adopted to be integrated into a chain conveyor production line with machine bed mounted above the chain conveyor, wherefrom the workpiece to be processed is loaded by vertical displacement.
On the machine vertical supporting plate are disposed the following main units: fusing transformer, a pair of electrodes and electrode holders, actuating cylinders, armature locating and indexing mechanisms that orientate the workpiece with respect to armature stack slots.
The working cycle is started automatically with the positioning of an armature fed from the conveyor. A vertical manipulator (integrated part of the conveyor) heaves the workpiece to the machine working zone, orientating the armature shaft with respect to the bearing journals. The armature is then indexed and supported by a special fork introduced below the commutator end side. The fusing process starts with the lowering of the two electrodes, where the fusing electrode presses the conductor ends against the commutator. The joint quality and strength is controlled by the number, intensity and duration of the electric current pulses, as well as by the range of the fusing electrode pressing force. The depth of penetration of the electrode into the solder spot is precisely controlled by a linear displacement gauge. Water cooling system is provided for preventing the transformer and the electrode holders from overheating. The armature is air cooled at the end of the fusing process (starting, duration and termination of the air blasting process is readjustable). After last indexing the finished armature is lowered back on the chain conveyor to undergo the next production line operation.
